Words of the Tour #1: La Grande Boucle

With the start of the 2021 Tour de France, here is the first in our series looking at the peculiar language of La Grande Boucle.

Speaking of which…

The Tour is nicknamed La Grande Boucle (“The Big Loop”) for fairly obvious reasons, as the individual stages (supposedly) form a loop around French territory.

However, you’d be hard pressed to agree that is the case with this year’s route, which pretty much cuts France in half and skirts around the south of France and omits most of the north.
